MYSTERIOUS RED WINE
POPULAR IN ENGLAND. PORT AND POTATO SPIRIT. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, February 21. A Thames bargee who recently proved unable to walk the white line, explained that he had been sampling a mysterious red wine at 2s a pint, which was prepared in a Thames-side building. Investigations show that it is a very fiery, intoxicating liquor, made from the cheapest Australian port, fortified with crude potato spirit from Germany.. The beverage possesses a very pronounced “ kick,” and is very popular in the north of England.
