CINDER TRACK RACING.

OPENING OF STADIUM. Motor cycle cinder track racing, popularly termed broadsiding, is to he introduced to Dunedin on Wednesday. This new form of sport has preyed very popular in the other centresrwud big crowds regularly attend the meetings. Ip the -short, space of four weeks a stadium to seat 10,000 spectators, named the SpeedWay Royal, has been-' erected just off Forbury Corner, and a 440 yards cinder track has also been laid down. . The track is 30 feet wide on the straights and 40 feet on the bends. The reason for ~ the extra rbom on the heads is to enable the riders to broadside round, and this they j do at speeds of from 40 to 50 .miles an hour. The huge stadium and the track have been specially lighted with lights aggregating 120,000 - candle-povar. The track is brilliantly lit up with 57 overhanging lights-of 2000 candle-power each. - For the opening meeting on Wednesday night well-known riders from overseas, Wellington, and Christchurch will appear, in addition to local riders. The Australian riders include Syd Perkins, (from the Speedway Royal, Sydney), ' Charlie Rerabo (from the Wentworth Speedway, Sydney),Max Graham (Wentworth, Sydney), and Frank Bennish (Adelaide). Harry Mangham, who has won fame on the grass tracks in New Zealand and who subsequently, competed with great success on the cinder tracks in Australia, is also to appear in addition to teams of A Grade riders from Wellington and Christchurch The principal event will be the Big Nine International Scratch Race.
