THE WOOL MARKET.

CONFERENCE IN CHRISTCHURCH. BUYERS AND BROKERS AGREE. SALES TO BE RESUMED, (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 22, The recent dispute between the wool buyers and the wool brokers, which resulted in the holding up of the wool sales throughout New Zealand, has been settled. At a conference held yesterday in Christchurch by representatives of the New Zealand Wool Brokers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association a satisfactory agreement was reached. The dispute started when the buyers announced that they would not attend sales unless there was an offering of not fewer than 20,000 bales. More than one conference was held without an agreement being arrived at, but now the following statement, over the signatures of Mr W. C. Brydon (president of the New Zealand Wool Brokers’ Association) and Mr HT. Milnes (president of the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association) has been issued:— As a result of numerous conferences, which have been conducted in the most friendly spirit, between the New Zealand Wool Buyers' Association and the New Zealand Brokers’ Association, a satisfactory arrangement has been arrived at for a continuation of the wool sales. As a result of the discussions, the buyers .have been enabled better to appreciate the difficulties the brokers were faced with in the offering of wool, and conversely the brokers have been able to appreciate the views of the buyers. The brokers particularly wish to emphasise that the statements which, have appeared) that buyers were endeavouring to force growers to sell wool are entirely erroneous. The chief difficulty being that overseas buyers are unable to remain in the country,to attend sales after approximately April 10 next, an immediate’commencement is being made with the sales, it. having been arranged that the buyers will commence valuing catalogues in the North Island early next week. A comDined sale of the Wellington and Wanganui offerings will be held in Wanganui, commencing on March 3, followed by Napier and Christchurch."
