The preparatory technical conference of conditions of work in the coal mining industry closed at Geneva yesterday. The conference rejected the proposal of the miners for a seven-hour day and that of the employers for an eighthour day, and was unable to agree on any intermediate number. The only decision come to was to recommend the governing body of the International Labour Office to place the question of hours on the agenda of the international conference to be held in June.
