The Dunedin . railwayman's annual picnic has been fixed for Sunday, Februaiy 9, at Milton, on a suitable ground adjoining the localrailway station,’ formerly known as “ Elderlea ” farm property. It is anticipated that about fSOO picnickers will participate in" this popular annual outing. The services of two bands—West Harbour and Milton Munimusic aTS beeD to provide SEA ELEPHANT ASHORE. A large sea elephant, which, ha* been reported during "the past x a \ havin ® bMn se en *at different beaches in the South Otagodistrict, came ashore near Bull Creek. Glenledi, on Saturday, and provided an object of interest to week-enders. The animal bears indications of having been seriously inj’ured, and portion of its tail is missing. After a brie! spell ashore it was driven back into the sea, SOUTH OTAGO CRICKET. The second round of the South Otago Association’s shield matches was concluded on Saturday afternoon in delightful weather. In the northern division the Milburn team maintained its -unbeaten record this season, defeating Baidu tha B team on the latter’s ground by an innings and 42 runs. Milton A team scored a victory against Stirling on the Milton ground by 134 runs. Milton B , tbe , bye on Saturday. Milhiirn (shield holders) head the northern division with a four-point lead from Milton A. MILTON A v. STIRLING. The Stirling team visited Milton on Saturday afternoon to fulfil the shield feture against the Milton Club’s A team. Batting first, Milton knocked up 16S B, Giver (32 retired), W. Heads (41 retired), J. MTDonald (34 retired), and H. Hood (24) topping the score. The Stirling team was disposed of in 16 overs for 34 runs, A. Barron (14) being the only player to reach double figures. Bowling honours for Milton A were shared by. M. Devanney, B. Ashton, J. Wilson, and H. Hood, with averages of about 1.5 runs per wicket. For Stirling, L. Duncan obtained the best bowling average with four wickets for 14 runs. Matches between the South Otago A and B Grade teams representing the northern and southern subdivisions will be played next Saturday afternoon—A Grade at Baldutha, and B Grade at Stirling. The following teams have been selected to represent the northern division:— A Grade: H. Ceilings, J. Kane sen., J. Kane jun., H. Wisely. R. Anicich, F. Bowie, H. Allan (all of Milburn), R. Olver, M.
