FLIGHT FROM ENGLAND.
NEW ZEALANDERS AT THE HELM. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 18. Interest attaches to the proposed flight by Flying-Officer H. L. Piper and Cyril E. Kay from England by reason of the fact that the latter is an Aucklander. He is the second son of Mr David Kay, land and estate agent, of Mangero. Educated at Devonport and Papatootoc public schools and the Scddon Memorial Technical College, FlviugOfliccr Kay is only 27 years of ago* He has had a very successful record in the Royal Air Force, which lie joined in England for a five-years terms in July, 1020. His first appointment was to the training school at Abu Suir, Egypt, where after nine months he contracted enteric fever and was furloughed back to England, In England he has gone through the Sealand, Mauuston and Salisbury military schools and the Calthrop Navigation School, and at present lie is attached to a division of the -Ui" Force at Catterick, ■ Besides passing several examinations Flying-Officer Kay was recently elected an honorary member of the Royal Meteorological Society of England, Always a "keen sporty he plays go and Rugby for the Air Force at Home, and is remembered by Auckland yachtsmen as part-owner of the one-design boat Nyria when she won the Ross Cup and the Burns Cup from Lord Jollicoo in 1024. Prior to leaving Auckland Flying-Officer Kay was employed by the Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd. Flying-Officer H. L. Piper is a member of a well-known Christchurch family and met his companion at one of the flying schools in England.
