BOYS' BRIGADE.

CAMP AT HAMPDEN. The Boys’ Brigade camp at Hampden terminated on January 4, after a very successful week’s work. The Ist Southland (Winton) Company won the best all-round company silver cup, the best kept tent shield, and a football for most points in sports. The 3rd Dunedin Company succeeded in the ambulance teats, and won the banner for company tone. The Ist Dunedin Company carried off the Grocott Cup for the best- prepared speech on “The Spiritual Influence of. the Boys’ Brigade on the New Zealand Boy,” and gained first place in signalling. The spiritual side of the camp was also encouraging. On Sunday morning a church parade was held at the Hampden Presbyterian Church, Captain Grocott taking the Bible reading and the Kev. P. L. A. Crampton (church chaplain) the children’s service. The Rev. A. J. Davis (Hampden) drew interesting lessons from drill commands such as “Halt,” “ Attention,” “ Stand at Ease,” etc. There was a large number present in spite of. the rain. The prepared speech competition was held on Saturday night, and resulted as follows:—Private N. Felton (Ist Dunedin), 85 points, 1; Corporal J. Cowie (Ist Southland), 80 points, 2; Private T. Whiteside (Ist Dunedin), 79 points, 3. The ambulance examination was conducted by Sir Louis Barnett, assisted by the headmaster of. the school (Mr A. S. Jenkins) and Mr George Fisher, Sir Louis complimented the boys on the work they had performed. Results:— Third Dunedin (No. 1) —stretcher 26, oral 31, practical 14, total 71; Southland, 23, 33,. 12, G 8; Ist Dunedin, 17, 32, 13, 62; 3rd Dunedin (2), 20, 22, 12, 54. The sports on New Year’s Day were keenly contested. Ist Dunedin won the senior section with 75 points, and Ist Southland was second with 60 points. The boy scoring most points was Lancecorporal E. Cowie (Ist Southland) with 63 points. The intermediate division was won by Southland with 54 points,, and Ist Dunedin (52 points) was second. The boy scoring most points was Private N. Fetoa (Ist Dunedin) with 49. The junior section winners were Ist Southland with 88 points, Ist Dunedin (18 points) being second. The boy scoring most points was Private L. Lindsay (Ist Southland) with 62. The signalling examination was conducted by Mr C. H. Langford, who served in the array signallers. Results:— Ist Dunedin —accuracy 64, speed 14, discipline 15, total 83; 3rd Dunedin—--63, IS, 9, 80; Ist Southland—63. 14. IS, 12, 79‘. In the best-kept tent competition the Winton Company gained first, second, and third places. The aggregate marks for the best allround company were;—Southland 311, 3rd Dunedin 215,15 t Dunedin 192.
