The Kallatina arrived ,at Cooktown from Thursday Island many hours late. The passengers told a thrilling , story of their experiences. _ Mountainous seas buffeted the ship all night. At one stage the position was so serious that lifebuoys and lifebelts were issued to the passengers and crew. To add to the danger the steering apparatus failed, and the vessel was steered through the cyclone by temporary means.
All along the coast f he shipping was held up. Telegraphic comriiunication north of Townsville was interrupted.
