BELGIAN ROYALTY
ARRIVAL AT ROME. A RAPTUROUS WELCOME. (Halted Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ROME, January 6. (Received Jan. 6, at 9 p.m.) Despite the necessity for elaborate precautions against the possibility of an outrage upon arrival of the Belgian Royal Family, the platform was crowded with princes, princesses, ambassadors, and other notables. King Albert was the first to leave the carriage, and his appearance was the signal for tumultuous cheering. Meanwhile Prince Umherto was helping, Princess Marie Jose to alight, and she was greeted with even more rapturous cheering. The Princess, who was dressed entirely in white, ,was a charming figure. The Prince was in full uniform. .
During the drive to the Quirinal the i.coupla .weta pelted with floweraifrom balconies, windows, and terraces, ‘many of the flowers falling on the Cuirassiers who were acting as escort. Signor Mussolini and the Ministers did not go to the station, but they were presented to the Belgian'Royal Family at the Quirinal.
Tie popularity of the marriage is enhanced greatly by the fact that 400 prisoners who had committed small offences were released as a mark of clemency on the occasion. -
