(Received Jan. 5, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr Ferris, secretary of the Amateur Athletic Union, states that he has received a cablegram from the Australian athletic authorities inviting Osbome to come on the Makura,„leaving on February 19. The Illinois Athletic Club at Chicago, of which Osborne is a member, states that Osborne is sailing by the Niagara on January 8. Efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful. (Received Jan. 5, at 11.50 p.m.) ' Two horses competed in the Whitelodge Steeplechase at Haydock Park today—Sardonyx and The Breezer. The former fell at the second fence, but was remounted and started in pursuit of The Breezer, who was still leading when he fell at the last fence. Miss Jean Sahday. daughter of The Breezer’s trainer, rushed on to the course, mounted the horse, and tried to catch Sardonyx amid wild cheering, put failed. The stewards are'uncertain if The Breezer is entitled to second place, and have referred the matter to the National Hunt Committee. GOLF. KIRKWOOD IN THIRD PLACE. (United Press Association.)
