AN UNAUTHORISED RAFFLE.

FIXE OF £.5 IMPOSED. (Peb United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, December 20. An unauthorised raffle, by which it was hoped to obtain funds in aid of a club, resulted in the appearance in court of Frank Chapman, representative of the Marunui Surf and Life-saving Club, who pleaded guilty, and a fine of £5 was imposed. The chief detective remarked that illegal lotteries were fairly prevalent, hut it was not an easy matter to get at those responsible. Chapman, who is a member of the executive of the club, elected to be charged when the police paid a visit to the clubhouse.
