MARRIAGE PARTNERS.
OLD CUSTOMS IN HOLLAND. Old customs said to persist in certain villages in Holland make November the month of marriages. The four Sundays of this month are known in order as Review Sunday, Decision Sunday, Purchase Suaday, and Possession Sunday. The ceremonies get under way on the first Sunday with a general assembly at the annual village fair. The opening event is always a country dance. On Review Sunday comes the big parade. After the morning service all the unmarried girls and the men walk about outside the church staring at one another A week is occupied in thinking over what has been seen. Seven days later selections are made The men, with polite bows, salute the maidens of their choice and learn their fate in the cordiality, or lack of it, in the response granted. The shell of romance weakens a trifle on the third Sunday or Purchase Day when parentts must bo satisfied in the matter of marriage settlements, prospect* and other details. When these are settled comes the final step—the marriage ceremony.
