FIRE AND WATER PROOF
SECRET TESTS WITH FABRICS. A REMARKABLE METHOD. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) LONDON, August 18. (Received August 19, at 11 p.m.) The Daily Express states that a group of industrial magnates in the strongroom of a Liverpooldfflce witnessed secret tests of a remarkable method of rendering fabrics fireproof and waterproof. The articles rendered immune included canvas, cotton, wool, paint, and silk. Thus aeroplane fabric drenched in petrol and set alight was unharmed. Phosphorus squirted upon fabrics burned for several minutes without result, and the pattern on a carpet was unaffected when a blowpipe was used, only the surface being slightly charred. The inventor is a young Liverpool chemist, John S. Hood, aged 24. Manufacturers of all types are offering large sums for the use of the process on license.—Australian Press Association^
