NAVAL DISCUSSIONS
THE REPORTED AGREEMENT. OFFICIAL CIRCLES DOUBTFUL. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, August 2. The four points on which London reports state that Mr MacDonald and General Dawes have readied an agreement in the naval discussions are said in authoritative sources here to have no relation to the facts. The State .Department officials decline to comment on the agreement. It is. strongly indicated that considerable ground must lie coveted before anything definite in regard to a conclusive'agreement is forthcoming.—Australian Press Association—United Service.
A NEWSPAPER assertion. POINTS AGREED UPON. DENIAL FROM WASHINGTON. LONDON, August 2. The Evening Standard asserts that Mr MacDonald and General Dawes have reached a formula restricting building of battleships, decreasing their size, and prolonging the life of those now in commission. They declare their willingness to stop building submarines. This, the, paper states, will, form the basis of communication to France, Italy, and Japan.—Australian Presf Association —United Service, LONDON, August 2. (Received August 3, at 5 p.m.) A high authority at Washington has denied .the London, press reports announcing that an agreement had been tentatively reached on . cutting - the size and extending the life of battleships and abolishing submarines.—Australian Press Association.
