AEROPLANE SERVICE.
AUCKLAND TO DUNEDIN. FORMATION OF NEW COMPANY. (Stecial TO DaXX.7 Tiubs.j . AUCKLAND, August 2. A company qalled New Zealand Aerial Services, Ltd., with a capital of £250,000, has been formed in Auckland and will be registered shortly. Already £50,000 of the capital of the company has bceu underwritten by Dominion Brokers, Ltd. It is proposed to purchase three tripleengined aeroplanes to carry passengers and goods between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and to institute a daily service between Auckland and Rotorua. The directors’in Auckland are Messrs S. I. Crookes, S. J. Harbutt, W. F. Grove, J, F. Dickson, and D. G. Olgivie. There will be local -directors in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, the idea being to make the company representative of New Zealand commercial interests. It is contemplated that in view of the fact that the Government will not at present undertake an aerial defence force, some arrangement will be made for a subsidy from the Government, as is the practice in most other countries. In time, it is probable that there will be an extensive mail service by plane, especially between the main centres. It has been felt by the proposed directors that the time is now oppprtune for an aeroplane service in New Zealand. Australia has in operation five commercial aeroplane companies. In view of the fact that the Company has already obtained sufficient capital to go to allotment, the prospects are very bright, and under the management of the proposed directors and experts who are being obtained from England, people in New Zealand may expect shortly to be able to travel from Auckland to Wellington and to Christchurch speedily and comfortably, whilst tourists arriving by the Aorangi and Niagara will be able to visit Rotorua and return the same day tc Auckland.
