In less than two minutes two literary rarities brought in a total of £2490 at Sotheby’s. William Blake’s “.Songs of Innonence,” with 31 plates, and his “ Songs of Experience,” with 17 plates, were sold for £I9OO. The volumes were a few plates short of the MncGeorge example sold five years ago for over £2OOO. A rare copy of “ A Christmas Carol,” fell to Mr Ben' Maggs for £s9o—“ a marvellous price,” _ commented an expert. At Christmas time 1844 there was a trial issue for the novelist, and the title page was printed in red and green and the half-title in green.
