HAND CUT OFF.

MAN’S EXTRAORDINARY ACTION

(Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, July 8. Whether depressed by solitude or suffering from temporary delusions, a man engaged on a bush contract on a station near Gisborne is believed to have attempted to take his own life in an extraordinary manner last week, leaving what evidently was intended to be a last letter to his mate, written in his own blood.

Returning to camp in the evening, the mate discovered the man with both wrists cut, and suffering from loss of blood. He succeeded in persuading the injured man to allow him to attend to the injuries, but subsequently, during the absence of his mate, the apparently demented man cut oil one of his hand's at the wrist." He is recovering now from the self-inflected injuries, and later will be charged with attempted suicide.
