SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS. EARLY URBAN RESULTS. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) CAPETOWN, June 12. The polling was unexpectedly heavy throughout the country. The early urban results largely increased the numbers of the South African Party (led by General Smuts). The Hon. P, Duncan was re-elected for Yeeville, while a young advocate named Lawrence captured the Salt River Cape railway works constituency from Labour.—Australian Press Association. MINISTER OF LABOUR DEFEATED. CAPETOWN, June 13. Mr Crcswcll was returned. Mr Boydell (Minister of Labour) was defeated. At midnight the South African Party had secured 25 seats, the Nationalists 2, and Labour 3, including one Creswellitc. Labour has lost three seats to the South African Party, notably Turffontein, where Mr Sturrock, a prominent, industrialist, was returned, and the South African Party regained Langlaagtc, where Mr Christie (chairman of the Labour Council) was defeated.— Australian Press Association, THE LATESTi, RETURNS. TOWNS BACK GENERAL SMUTS, CAPETOWN, June 13. • (Received June 14, at 1.45 a.m.) Tlie results are filtering through slowly. The towns refused to be scared by the black bogey and solidly backed General Smuts. Labour has lost nine seats, the South African Party has gained* nine, and the Nationalists have gained two.
