(Special to Daily Times.) MILTON, June 13. UNEMPLOYMENT. The Milton Borough Council at last night’s meeting decided to make application to the Government for a grant or subsidy for relief of unemployment' in the borough, which has been aggravated by the recent discharge of 10 hands from the Milburn lime works owing to seasonal slackness of trade. Tim council is also making application to the Returned Soldiers’ Association for a refund of portion of the Poppy Day funds raised locally, and the chairman of the Finance, Works and Reserves Committees have been appointed to ascertain a scheme of works suitable for the-em-ployment of local returned soldiers. The Returned Soldiers’ Association has notified its willingness to refund the money if' subsidised on a £ for £ basis, and utilised for the payment of labour only. PUBLIC TELEPHONE BOOTH. The distri ; engineer. Post and Telegraph Department, has declined an application by the local Borough Council for the erection of a public telephone booth iii the main street. Experience has shown that public telephone booths arc rarely used in towns of a size similar to that of Milton, and the revenue to the department is considerably less than the cost of operating and maintenance. RUGBY FOOTBALL. Hie South Otago Senior Grade banner matches will be continued on Saturday, when Toko I team journeys to Clinton, Clutlia plays Crescent at ivaitalignta.
