REPRESENTATIVE FOOTBALL. . South Otago senior representatives journeyed to Gore yesterday to play the annual match with the representatives of the Eastern Districts Sub-union, and suffered defeat by 12 points to 3. The ground was wet and the ball greasy, and consequently the South Otago backs were at a decided disadvantage, having been fortunate this season in not having to play previously under such conditions. Nevertheless, a good game resulted, and the Eastern Districts backs showed much greater adaptability than those of South Otngo, and were also faster, It was to the backs that Eastern Districts owed their win, for the South Otago forwards more than held their own. First blood fell to South Otago, when Murray kicked a penalty goal, but later efforts to score were unavailing. Tries for the winners were scored by Ottrey (2) and Sewell, and a penalty goal completed the score. Duggan (Owaka), first five-eighths, was the bright particular star among the South Otago backs; but before the close of the game he had the misfortune to suffer mi injury to a shoulder,, which on arrival at Balclntha necessitated hospital treatment. The South Otago halfback, Martin, of Milton, was also injured, but not badly. PASTORAL CALL.

At a meeting of members of the Stirling Presbyterian congregation it was decided to give a call to the Rev. Mr Fairlie Evans, of Limestone Plains, Southland. The call was unanimous.
