RETAIL TRADE IN LIQUOR.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir, — I have been in the habit of asking for a bottle of a particular brand of ale now and again. These bottles are all wrapped in paper ready for sale, and, upon opening my parcel at home, I have found on occasions that the ale was otherwise than that ordered. Thinking that some mistake might have happened or that the attendant might have been deaf, I made inquiries and was informed that some hotelkeepers have shares in a particular brewery, and that they have to push its wares. The brewer is evidently becoming a monopolist, and possibly has inflated notions since the last elections, and may have ,to be spoken' to in a serious manner at the next election if this practice of substitution continues. He cannot afford to be a monopolist.—l am, etc., ■ Voter. Dunedin, May 3.
