ISLAND BANANAS.

MAUI POMARE'S CARGO; LARGE QUANTITY UNSALEABLE, (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 6. When the cargo of bananas brought to Lyttelton by the Maul Pomanv was opened to-day it was found that earlier reports as to their being in excellent condition were rather optimistic. The bananas were in only fair order, and quite a large quantity is unfit for human consumption. A total of 770 cases wero delivered. The Niue bananas were in fair condition, but those from Samoa were fu indifferent order. Sdme of the latter brought only Is and la fld a case, while the average auction pribc was from 9s to 12s.
