METHVEN PIONEERS.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. (Per United Press Association.) ASHBURTON, April 2G. Tributes to the pioneers were paid at a function held at 'Methven to-day to celebrate the jubilee‘of the Mount Hutt Methven district. Eighty-four early settlers were among the 250 guests at th? banquet, the attendance including Sir William Nosworthy ahd the Minister of Agriculture and of Lands (Mr G. W Forbes), representing; the Government. Mr F. W. Ruddenklau, chairman of the Mount Hutt Road Board, presided Many speakers referred to t,he hardships faced by the pioneers and the difficulties overcome by them in the days when the plains were given over to tussock, fern, and the weka. A handsome silver mug was presented to Mrs A. O. Watson, whose son was born on the actual jubilee date, January 18 last.
