CHRYSOGONUM VIRGINIANUM
Although It has not a strikingly handsome bloom, this American perennial is one of those plants which have a way of winning one’s regard, 'the result being that you will nearly always see it conspicuously represented, even at great shows like Chelsea. - There is no doubt about Golden Knee’s, popularity, and one reason for this is its unfaili-.g good temper under almost any conditions, and its commendable habit of flowering without cessation throughout the season. C. virginianum is a low-growing, semi-pros-trate plant of about six inches in heigh! with pointed, heart-shaped leaves, which arc large for the size of the growths. The flowers, which arc of the composite pattern, and about one inch across, are a rich yellow the broad rays being set so wide apart that they give the appearance of a five-pointed star. This subject asks no special care as to soil or situation. It enjoys a freely-drained, medium loam, and its share of the sun, but in. dense shade, even in a tree-dip, it has prospered without complaint. A subject for the rock garden, woodland, margin of shrubbery, or the front of the mixed border, it may be planted with confidence of a full season’s display in due course.
