‘The monthly meeting of the Council of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association was held in First Church classroom on Thursday afternoon, when the fbllow,Wero P^entMesdames Phillips (in the chair), Batham, Bundle, Gallan, Cameron, W. Evans, Ewing, p a ’ lowa ß Gilkison, J. Glendining, idalsted, R. Hudson, Hutchison, G. MacDfcan, Mollison, Shand, Sidcy, WaddellSmith, and Miss Scott. A gratifying amount was raised for the St Baida Kindergarten through efforts by two members of the local committee—Mrs Tennant, who was hostess at a bridge drive in her home, and Mrs Laney, ,who organised a sale of cakes.. Teachers-re-ported that in all schools there were busy Christmas preparations. The kindergartens will break up for the holidays as follows:—R. S. Reynolds and Kaikorai on December 12; R. Hudson Memorial and St. Kilda, December 13: North-East Valley and Kelsey Yaralla, December 14. Presentation of diplomas to successful students took, place yesterday evening at the Otago IV omen s Club. Three students have sained their diplomas—Miss Gould (with distinction), Miss Desmoulius, and Miss btewart. All the junior students were, successful in their first year's examination. Accounts amounting to £276 5s 4d were passed for payment. The monthly meeting of the St. Clair School Committee was held in the school office on Tuesday, Mr Halliday presiding. Betters were received from L. V. Bagley and Miss ,T. Macßae. It was decided that £1 be given to the special school in Moray place, giving special classes for backward children; also that the chairman and headmaster interview the Education Board regarding the state of fences surrounding the school grounds. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent .to Mr-R, \V. Hall for his donation towards school funds; also, that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr Charles Todd for his donation ■ towards the memorial gates and fence. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to the- headmaster and staff fop results achieved at tie bazaar. Mr Pritchard reported that he and Mr Fastier had visited fhe school that day <&d found attendance very good, and the health of the children excellent; also, there were many • broken windows that required attention and suggested netting, wire screen over most of the exposed windows. Some discussion took place regarding the erection of the memorial gates and fence. ' In the end it was decided that as there still was a shortage of £-40 of the required sum, this matter be left over until a future date. The chairman intimated that he intended issuing an appeal to parents at the school break-up. The headmaster reported that the average roll for November was 657, and the average attendance 617. Miss Snowball, having received an appointment, ceased work as substitute assistant at the end of the month, and will be relieved by Mrs' MTdntoek. The A cricket -team won two matches and lost two. The B team have drawn one and the other matches were lost. A small team was entered in the swimming tournament with very little success, gaining a second in the Olds Cup for boys of Standard IV. and a third in the Olds Cup for girls of Standard HI. The chairman . intimated that he had intended donating the dux and sports medal this year, and was thanked for his kind offer.
