UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM.

POSITION IN ..CHRISTCHURCH. BLEAK OUTLOOK FOR CHRISTMAS. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 4. With nearly. 400 men registered at the Government Labour Bureau, the problem of unemployment in Christchurch Is still very serious, and the prospects of the men securing work_before the Christmas season do not appear to be bright. The funds of the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee ai-c now practically exhausted, and it is not likely that the committee will go out of existence at an early date. In the meantime, however, the number of men out of work is increasing rather than decreasing. The weekly report*of the Labour Department issued to-day showed that the number of men registered at the bureau was 291, an increase of nine since the previous report. During the week 122 new applications were received at the bureau and only 33 men were placed in employment. Of the total of 391 men registered this week 288 have dependents and 103 arc without dependents.
