WEST HARBOUR AFFAIRS.

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL: The monthly meeting of the West Harbour; Borough Council, was held last evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. M. Fraser), Crs T. H. Harridge, C. M. French', 6. W. C., Macdonald, J. M. Kay, J .Robb, J. T. Downes, G. Young, A,-Smith,-F. W.'Venn, and A. D,-Asher. ■ ■The Mayor said that a former resident of the district—Mr 'E.. Bagley—had lost his life recently as the. result of a motor car accident in Melbourne. Although the deceased had been absent from New Zealand .for several years, he was wellknown in West’Harbour. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the deceased was carried. .

Mr T. A. .Walker, of .Sawyers’ Bay, wrote drawing attention to the loose metal lying . about the • road between Burkes and Sawyers’ Bay;. He suggested that the metal be removed.—Cr Harridge said there wasfo. grave danger when loosemetal was left lying about the roads.— After some discussion, it was decided, that the'matter be left in-the hands of the inspector to 'deal .with. __ The West Harbour Ratepayers and Householders’ Association wrote entering a strong protest against the attempt that 1 ’s .being made to. change-the. name of Mai a to, Rothesay. _ The association also said that the council had-not carried out; its obligation in obtaining the opinion, of the residents of Maig and the regular, travellers by the trains 1 ' from, that station.—The. Mayor said' that a letter had' -been forwarded to the Railways .Department suggesting that the name should be changed to Rothesay, and it would he useless to,. discuss the matter until'a reply had been received.—The letter. was received* i A lengthy letter from Mr W, J. Barnsley in connection with the parking of a motor car at the King George Hall. St. Leonards, was recoiyea, , Cr Macdonald brought .up the matter: 0f,.-the running of suburban trains. - He! said that, the 5.15 . p.m. train from Port l Chalmers stopped, at- Maia- only on Satur-’ days, and several dock and other workers; "' e re■ inconvenienced,- in;- consequence.—lt : was decided to write -to the Railways. Department requesting-that, this train should stop at Maia each evening,The town clerk was instructed fo write to the manager- of the 'City Tramway Department asking that a time table notice in , respect to the Logan Park- tram 'service be erected for the'convenience of West Harbour , residents. . ■■■ • >. ;

The road at the corner of Shannon and Clyde streets had been filled in and built up-to enable cars to turn. The road to Chandler’s required attention and also the main road, the latter being in bad order from the quarry to Ravcnsbournc.—The-report was approved. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the past month amounted to ’£46B 9a 7d. Accounts ■ amounting to £469 3s- Id had been passed for payment, leaving a debit balance of £2221 19s lid.— The report was adopted. .
