TRANSATLANTIC MAIL SERVICE. RECOGNISED BY POST OFFICE. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, August 27. (Received August 28, at 8.30 p.m.) The Post Office is,recognising the success of the He de France aeroplane mail, and is accepting mail for America by that service marked “ Catapult Air Mail.” A charge of 2s 6d per halfounce is made in addition to the ordinary postage.—Australian Press Association.
A previous message stated: —The lie de France saved two days on the eastward Transatlantic mail service by means of an aeroplane, which tvas shot into the air at 60 miles an hour 150 miles west of Sicily Isles. Despite bad weather, the scheme worked excellently, the plane refuelling at Cherbourg, whence it proceeded to Paris. An extra charge of 20d per letter is made. The scheme will be applied to other French liners.
MR LEVINE RETURNS.
A STAY AT BRUSSELS
LONDON, August 27. (Received August 28, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr Levine and Miss Mable 801 l flew back to Croydon this evening after a 90 minutes’ stay at Brussels, which, they state, is in no way connected with any Transatlantic venture. —Australian Press Association.
