BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, August 10. KAKA POINT CARNIVAL. About 20 persons interested in the development of Kaka Point met iu the County Hall, Balclutha, last night, at the invitation of the Welfare Society, to discuss the question of holding a carnival at Kaka Point during the Christmas and New Year holidays, iu aid of the hall project. Mr S. Wright presided. After considerable discussion it was decided to hold a carnival as proposed. The need for a really good organiser was put forward by Mr S. V, White, and it was eventually decided to endeavour to get Major Lampen, who had proved very successful in organising carnivals at the Dunedin beaches, to visit Balclutha, and address a meeting of those interested. The chairman expressed his confidence that were the carnival properly carried c it, it would solve the question of paying for the hall, and at the same time give the public a great deal of amusement and entertainment. It was further pointed out that it might be possible to work in conjunction with the Port Molyneus Caledonian Society on New Year’s Day to the mutual profit of both organisations. Several other suggestions were made, and the meeting closed on a distinct note of enthusiasm.
