In the women’s quarter-finals Senorita D’Alvarez beat Miss Aussem, 7—5, 6—2 ; Miss Akhurst beat Miss Bennett, 2—6, 6—3, 6—2; Miss Ryan beat Mrs Nicolopoulos, 6—l, 4—6, 6—2. In the mixed doubles first round Hawkes and Miss Boyd beat Kleinschroth and Mrs Jackson, 6—l, 6—l; Hopman and Miss Bickerton beat Gilbert and Mrs Stocks, 2—6, 6—4. 6—2; Moon and Mrs O’Hara Wood beat Lester and Miss Ridley, 6—o, 6—4. In the men’s doubles third round Boyd and Robson beat Brooks and Coen, 4—6, 6—2, 6—3, 3—6, 6—4. RUGBY, July 3. (Received July 3, at 7.25 p.m.) In the men’s singles (Lacoste (France), Cochet (France), Tilden (United States), and Boussus (France) have reached the semi-fin-als. Tilden will meet Lacoste, and Cochet will meet Boussus for places in the final. In the women’s singles Miss Helen Wills (United States) qualified for the semi-finals. Other semi-finalists are Miss Akhurst (Australia), Signorila D’Alverez (Spain), and Miss Ryan.
