TAPANUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, July 2. CLEARING SALE. Notwithstanding the rough weather experienced on Friday, there was a good attendance at M. Cassidy’s sale at Kelso. Snow fell almost incessantly, which stopped many from attending. Bidding throughout the sale was keen. The principal prices realised were:—Two and four-tooth ewes. 37s 3d; full and failing mouth ewes, ,14s 3d; ewe hoggets, 27s 9d; wether hoggets. 23s 9d: ridger, £26 10s; grass\ seed stripper, £27; disc harrows. £10; single digger, £ls ss; roller, £l3 10s; dray. £18; M.H. drill, £42. Horses, cattle, and sundries realised full market prices. M.U.L0.0.F. The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Tapanui Lodge was held on Thursday evening. N.G. Bro. E. M'Auley was in the chair, and there was a large attendance. Three members were initiated ami two new members were proposed. A
report was received from the judges of the initiation competition held recently at Balclutha, in which they reviewed the work of the local lodge officers in _ the competition, giving some helpful hints. It was agreed that Bros. Russell and Hutton be thanked for their report, and that an invitation be extended to them to visit the lodge. It was resolved that a letter be sent to P.P.G.M. Bro. P. Stabb expressing the members’_ sympathy with him in his illness, and wishing him a speedy recovery. It was, decided _ to enter for' the half-yearly efficiency shield competition. After discusion it was resolved that a ladies’ -as well as a men’s cloak room be added to the present building. After keen competition the following officers were elected for the ensuing half-year:—G.M., tiro. E. M’Aulley; N.G., Bro. T. Robertson; V.G., Bro. W. Lischner: E.S., Bro. A. Potts; warden, Bro. R. Kirk; guardian, Bro. E. Howat; conductor, Bro. J. Mercer. PERSONAL. Mr Charles Armstrong, who has been on a health trip to the north, returned to Tapanui on Friday, and hi- many friends will be pleased to know that he is much improved in health. Nurse M'Govern, of the local Cottage Hospital, left on Saturday for Dunedin, having finished' her term here. Nurse M’Carthy, the new appointee, has assumed duty. Mr J. Wylie- Nevis, w'ho spent a week with relatives in Tapanin, left on Thursday en route for his home.
