CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

A special meting of Clutha Presbytery was held at Balclutha on Friday last. The Rev. T. Tweedie (moderator) presided over a fair attendance. The clerk submitted a call from Mai heno in favour of the Rev. W. W. French, of Kaitangata. The call was hearty, and was signed by 68 out of '7 members, and by 54 adherents. Mr Hume stated the case for Maheno. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler spoke on behalf of the Kaitangata charge. The people had no desire to lose Mr French, whose services were very highly appreciated, but owing to health considerations in his family they thought it unfair to place any obstacle in the way of his transfer. —lt was agreed to place the call in Mr French’s hands, and it was duly accepted by him. Various members of the presbytery expressed their appreciation of Sir French’s work, and their regret in parting with him. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler was appointed interim moderator of Kaitangata, .d the Rev. Roy Alley interim moderator of Stirling, in place of Mr French. A call was presented from Stirling in favour of the Rev. J. Robertson, of Alexandra, but as he had stated that he could not sec his way to accept it, it was agreed that the call should be withdrawn. The clerk presented the report of the oonpnittee which met in Wellington rematlj to consider the organisations of the church, and there was a full and frank discussion of the points raised by the report and its proposals.
