ST. KILDA COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The St. Hilda Borough Council meetin" last evening was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. W. Hall) and Crs A. H. Leary, J. Fleming, T. D. B. Roy, J. D. M'Curdy, F. 0. Gillan, C. Conn, G. Stratton, J. Beattie, E. Longworth, and R. Teller. The town clerk of the Palmerston North Borough Council write intimating that for some time past the system of hospital management and local body representation on hospital boards had received serious attention, and his council had come to the conclusion that there was urgent need for action on the part of all contributing bodies in the direction of asking the Goverunment that the whole stystem of control should be revised with the object of defining the future policy of the hospital revenue and expenditure. The council was asked to consider the matter with a view to joining a deputation to the Government this session.—The letter was received. The water consumption in the borough for the past fortnight was 4,526,000 gallons, valued at £ll3 3s, as against £lO9 5s for the previous period of 13 days. Regarding the spoil removed from Young and Bird streets, mentioned at the last meeting, the town clerk reported that the foreman had reported that he had granted permission to certain applicants to cart away 10 loads of grass and other material during the kerbing and channelling of the streets mentioned. Most of the material was used for building up the back portion of a section in the borough. However, no permission had been given anyone to lift the pitchers which had been taken to Macandrcw road and used to form a crossing into a section. The foreman stated that the person concerned admitted removing the stones. Still no other material had been taken outside the borough.—Cr Stratton, who was responsible for the inquiry, moved that the report was not satisfactory, and should be referred back to the town clerk.—This was not agreed to, it being decided that ratepayers should be allowed .what spoil they required for the asking. The secretary, of the Tainui Progress League wrote advising that for some time his committee had been on the lookout for a suitable piece of land for a playing area for children. He asked the council if it would be possible to grant a part of Culling Park for the purpose.—The matter was held over unitl Culling Park was dealt with as a whole.
