A PROGRESSIVE COUNTY.
TESTIMONY TO ADMINISTRATION. (Pee United Peess Association.! PAHIATUA, June 11. The Pahiatua County Council unanimously resolved that in future Saturday will be observed as a half holiday to all surfacemen and other employees. The movers of the proposal were backblock members. “We all take our half-day for football or race .meetings,” said one councillor,” and why shouldn't our employees be able to do the same? Some of them arc footballers, and would like to play, too.” The council has had an exceptionally successful year. A great deal of permanent work in the reconstruction of bridges and culverts in ferro-concrete has been carried out. The financial position is also very gratifying, and is regarded as a great testimony to the administration of the council. A fresh site has been secured for the erection of well appointed new county offices, and payment will be made out of the rates without increasing the latter. The chairman, Cr A. S. Bolton, has held office for many years, and has been warmly congratulated on the county’s achievements.
