TRINITY METHODIST AND CENTRAL MISSION.

The two neighbouring: churches. Trinity Methodist and the Central Mission, have joined forces for the purpose of holding special evangelistic services in connection with the simultaneous mission now being held in the city and suburbs. The opening meeting was held in Slade Hall last evening, and was largely attended by members of both churches. The Rev. H. E. Bellhouse conducted the service, and preached an earnest address from St. Marks Gospel, chapter ii, verse 5: “When Jesus saw their faith.” The preacher pointed out that Jesus had no uniform method of dealing with men. He dealt with each applicant for His mercy as a separate unit. Beholding the man, Jesus understood his case completely, and, recognising the man’s chief need, He granted the man inward peace, forgiveness for his sins, and lasting joy. He answered the appeal of the man’s conscience. Christ honoured the daring, ingenuity, and work of the men who had introduced this man to Him. The preacher pointed out that Christ always honoured the faith of others, and appealed earnestly to church members to discharge their duty and responsibility of doing the utmost possible to bring outsiders, by prayer and faith, to Christ that He might grant their highest need, which, in his opinion, was forgiveness of sins. This was not a popular message nowadays, and was little understood by many church members. They were apt to lay stress on material benefits and positions, as if they were of the highest value. The cause of this man’s forgiveness was the faith of the men who had brought him to Christ, and all present were exhorted to render similar service. The Rev. W. Walker concluded the service by prayer. Miss Marett presided at the piano. The service was deeply impressive, and the attendance satisfactory. Meetings will be continued in Slade Hall this week, and next week in Trinity Church.
