RUGBY FOOTBALL.

OTAGO UNION. The weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. Mr D. M. Stuart (president) occupied the chair. As only five members of the University Third Grade team appeared on the ground to play Kaikorai, the match was awarded to Kaikorai.—Regret was expressed that the University team did not fulfil its promise to play the match. W. J. Beale was granted a transfer from the Pirates Club to the Taieri Club. It was decided to play the University A v. University B match on Wednesday, June 20. The Secretary reported that the gate receipts at Carisbrook on Saturday were £2BO and the total for all matches £282 16s. The Appointment Board forwarded the following names of referees capable of taking interprovincial and other matches: —Messrs A. Eckhold, R. Herd, G. Mansion, G. M'Kenzie, and R. Watson.—lt was decided to forward the names to the New Zealand Rugby Union. The Secretary reported that all the subunions had agreed to the proposed toui of minor unions.—The sub-committee set up to deal with the matter suggested that the South Otago Sub-union should be asked to play a Possibles v. Probables match on June 30 and that the Tuapeka and West Otago Sub-unions should be asked to play their annual match on July 7. The Maniototo-Vincent match was suggested for July 14, the conference of subunions to be held on the same date. In regard to the suggestion by the Mamototo Sub-union that the touring side should play an Otago team on its return, the committee recommended that the subunion should be informed that the match could not be arranged.—The recommendations of the committee were adopted. In reply to an inquiry from the union whether it had played a boy over 16 in its Sixth Grade match against Alhambra, the Union Club wrote stating that owing to a misunderstanding it had played a boy a fortnight over the prescribed age. It understood, however, that the Alhambra Club had also played a boy over age. —lt was decided to ask the Alhambra Club whether any of its players were not under the age limit. MATCHES FOR SATURDAY. (Pkb United Press Association.) „ GISBORNE, June 11. At a meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union to-night a letter was received from the Y.M.P. Club (Maoris) complaining of the conditions of the Prince of Wales’s Cup. It was contended that the conditions made in the letter by Sir James Carroll to the Prince suggesting a trophy were to the effect that the cup should be for Maori clubs only and not for Maori districts, as laid down by the Maori Advisory Board. In furtherance of this contention, attention was drawn to the fact that the inscription on the cup stated that it was for competition amongst Maori football clubs. After discussion, it was decided to forward the letter to the New Zealand Rugby Union, and also to ask for a copy of the rules relating to the cup.
