PRINCE CAROL
ATTITUDE TOWARDS MONARCHY FRANK STATEMENT PROMISED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, May 4. (Received May 4, at 11.30 p.m.) Prince Carol broke the carefullyguarded silence upon bis attitude towards the Rumanian throne by asserting in a special' interview that it was a downright lie that he had left the country because of Madame Lupescu. In a few days he would come out into the open with a full and frank statement. Madame Lupescu is a very good friend, but she was not associated with my departure from the coutry. I have been wickedly misrepresented in the foreign press, but am confident of fair play in England.” Pressed on several occasions for an authoritative statement on his position in regard to the Monarchy, he answered: “ Never mind, I can wait. I want my son to go to an English school. There is no good in his being cooped up in his own country without an opportunity for getting a broader outlook.” Madame Lupescu is staying at the same house, but it is hard to estimate the influence she wields over Prince Carol as she remains in the background, reticent and inscrutable.
