VISIT OF WEST COAST FARMERS.
Mr W. O. M’Kellar, president of the Otago A. and P. Society, presided over a conference held yesterday afternoon from the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, the Farmers’ Union, and the Licensed Victuallers’ Association. The Chairman reported that it had been practically arranged that the train from the West Coast would be timed to arrive at Bushey Park on Saturday", June 2, at 3 p.m., when an opportunity would be given to the visitors to inspect Mr J. A, Johnstone’s Bushey Park cattle, horses, and sheep. The train would remain at Bushey Park for two hours, and would arrive in ITuncdin about (i..»0 p.ni., The visitors would be mot at the station, and a welcome extended to them by representatives from the City Council. Mamij facturers’ Association, the h anners Union, the Otago A. and P. Society, the Chamber of Commerce, and others, The question of providing for the necessary accommodation was left entirely in the hands of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, whose officer, Mr. H. F. Payton, would meet the train at Oamaru and hand over to each passenger a note giving him particulars of his accommodation. It was proposed that Sunday would be reserved for private visiting, or advantage could be taken of the observation trips provided by the Dunedin City Council. On Slonday the visitors would have an opportunity of attending the Winter Show or the Dunedin Jockey Club’s races at Wingatui. A sub-committee was appointed to make all further arrangements in regard to visiting different factories, and to ensure that the visit would be both interesting and instructive.
