FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

FORESTERS. Bro. W. H. Baxter presided over a good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of Dunedin, A.O.F. Arrangements were made for a syllabus for the winter months. The annual statement of accounts showed the court to have had a very satisfactory year financially, and it was decided to forward a copy to each member, together with the auditors’ report. Presentations of P.C.R jewels, with an additional gold bar, suitably inscribed, were made to ( Bros. W. G. M’Dowell and S. Taylor (who had served a second term as C.R.), and one due to the late Bro. F. J. Nicholls was handed to his son. The committee appointed to" confer with committees of Court Enterprise and the district regarding the proposal for the reunion of the courts with the district reported ( thas the position at present was not very satisfactory from the courts’ point of view on account of the attitude taken up by the actuary. Bro. A. Fraser, having removed to the country, tendered his resignation of the position of minute secretary, and Bro. W. G. M'Dowall was appointed in his stead. MANCHESTER UNITY. N.G. Bro. Moffat presided over an excellent attendance of members of _ the Loyal Dalton on Tuesday night. The correspondence included two claims for maternity benefit and a doctor's certificate declaring one brother off the funds. The lodge has entered most enthusiastically into the 1000 new members campaign. Over 20 new members have ab ready been enrolled. Seven candidates were installed by the officers, and four new members were proposed. N.Z. Bro. M. Moffat and E.S. Bro. Moffat were elected to represent the lodge the annual district meeting in Roxburgh. P-G. Bro. A. Thomas was also granted a certificate to attend the meeting. G.M. Bro. Craig reported having attended a meeting of friendly societies, and stated that it was decided to hold a church parade and attend the Salvation Army on Sunday evening, April 15. Sister lodges were asked to attend, and special notices would be sent to all members. It was decided to enter a team in the South Otago ritual competition, and make application to have the next competition in the Dalton Lodge. Several members stated that they were making a visit to the Loyal Albion Lodge, Dunedin, to honour the pro-grand master at the last official meeting that he would attend before vacating the chair. Bro. Banks, Loyal Alexandra. Lodge, responded to the second toast. The receipts were £3O 18s, and expenditure £l2. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Caversham Lodge was held in the hall, N. Bro. H. Etnmerson occupying the chair. A letter was received regarding a case of distress, and the pjatter was referred to the Management Committee to make inquiries. P.G. Bro. R. B. Hill reported that the juvenile lodge had won the competitive sheet at the juvenile picnic, and as this was the first occasion that it had done so, he thought the senior lodge should show the boys its appreciation .of the honour. It was decided to entertain the boys at their meeting on Wednesday night, when it was hoped that as many senior members as possible would attend. One candidate was elected, and two members were proposed. The second toast was responded to by the Loyal Albion Lodge. The elective officers entertained the members at a game of progressive euchre. The contest was keen, and resulted in Bro. Isaac and Bro. Woodhouse tying with six games eaeh. In the play off Bro. Isaac proved the winner. A vote of thanks was passed to the officers.
