RACE FOR MOFFETT CUP. The annual harbour race between motor boats for the Moffett Cup was held on Saturday afternoon under perfect weather conditions. The race, which was held under the auspices of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club, was won by Spitfire. Twelve boats entered, but only six started, while four completed the course. Southern Star developed engine trouble, and Islay retired. The boats started from the corner of the Victoria and Rattray street wharves, and travelled a course through the Victoria Channel to a mark in Carey’s Bay, and returned thence to the starting point. The result was:— Spitfire (56m) 1 Stella (65m) 2 Mystery (scr) 3 Eugie (110 m) 0 RAVENSBOURNE BOATING CLUB. The Ravensbourne Boating Club held a race for yachts on Saturday afternoon, in which only four boats started. The wind was fresh from the north-east. The 14-footer Eileen was first to cross the line at gunfire, followed by Frolic, Winifred, and the 16-footer Kia Ora. On tire run to the three legs, Kia Ora overhauled the other boats, and rounded a, few seconds ahead of Eileen,'with Winifred next, and Frolic about 2min astern. On the beat down to Challis’s buoy Eileen went into the lead, and Winifred sailed to windward of Kia Ora. The boats kept to the channel wall as the wind was more than northerly. Eileen increased her lead, and rounded the bouy 3min ahead of Winifred, with Kia Ora about lAmin astern of Winifred, and Frolic a long way back. On the run back to the three logs Eileen further increased her lead, and was about ahead of Winifred. At this time Kia Ora was 1m 23s astern of Winifred. On the beat back to the line Eileen increased her lead slightly, but could not concede her handicap to the other boats. The result was as follows : Kia Ora (9m), Ih 28rn 44s 1 Winifred (6m), Ih 29m Is 2 Eileen (scr), Ih 30m 19s 3 Frolic (28m 30s), Ih 35m 59s 0 REGATTA AT WANGANUI. ITS CONDUCT CRITICISED (Feb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, march 17. The Wellington Rowing Association passed a resolution disapproving of the conduct of the Championship Regatta at Wanganui, particularly the delay m starting the champion fours by the permitting of the men in the crews in this race to enter into a discussion as to the suitability of the water and their being allowed to delay the race by their refusal to start when called upon; and also stating that the starting of the races generally was moat unsatisfactory, and that even the postponement of the chaippion fours was no reason for delaying the subsequent events.
