OTAGO EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the Committee of Management of the Otago Educational Institute was held in the clubroom on Saturday. The president, Mr F. E. L. Forrester, wks in the chair. The President made feeling reference to the recent deaths of three memberl, Messrs Buchler, Hoggans and Gardiner, and moved a motion of sympathy with the relatives, members of the committee standing as a token of respect. The balance sheet for the year ended December 31, 1927, showing a credit balance of £lls 11s 8d was adopted. . Mr A. H. Williamson was appointed returning officer for the forthcoming ballot of representatives to the annual conference and Mr J. A. Moore was re-elected as branch representative on the council of the Workers Educational Association. The Secretary read a circular from the N.Z.E.I. intimating the new system that would be adopted at the annual meeting, whereby _ the most important remits would be considered first. The committee deto approve the system. An application from the Shakespeare Club for the use of the teachers’ clubroom on Monday evenings was granted, the president and secretary to make the necessary arrangements.
Mr W. F. Abel was again appointed thto teachers’ advocate on the Grading Appeal Board. Special reference was njade to the fine efforts Mr Abel had made last year on behalf of appellant teachers. It was decided to support the nomination of Mr A. Hall Auckland, as president of the N.Z.E.1., and of Mr J. Poison, Christ church, as vice-president.
