UNIQUE MOTOR SHIP.

The Blue Funnel Line motor ship Dolius, which was due at Sydney on January 2G, is unique. She is driven by a combination of oil and steam, which cause 8 considerable economy in oil fuel consumption. I'lie Points was built four years ago by the Sco't Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, ol Oreenock, the oldest British shipbuilding firm, and the combination of oil and steam is this firm's own invention. The Dolius is worked by a Scott-Still engine, consisting of two sets of fonr-cylind <r er-giiies. The engine is worked by oil on the down-stroke and on the up-stroke. The steam is generated bv the waste gases from the motor side. Abcut 15 per cent, of the total power of the engines comes from the stecm which otherwise would go to waste up the funnel. The Dolius is 8000 tons deadweielit. Rnci can steam at an average speed of 11$ knots, consuming about 8$ tons of oil a df.y, instead of 10 or 11 tons of oil in the average motor ship, this saves £8 a day In oil fuM consumption. A new freighter, the Kurybates. has recently been built and fitted with motors acting on the sime principle, and it now undergoing her trials.
