MILTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON, January 30. r Mr James H. Moir (Clarksville) has been’ appointed to act as relieving sole teacher at Southbridge School pending the appointment of a successor to Mr F. Martin Kennedy, who has been transferred to the Ncapara School. ADD MILTON NOTES SCHOOL RE-OPENING. The finishing touches in the extensive alterations and remodelling of Toko District High School will not he completed in readiness for the original date of re-opening the schools in the Otago district, and the opening has been postponed until Monday, February 6.
RAILWAY REVENUE. The R a.mays JJuparuueiu on Saturday received the sum of £lO4 2s 5d for the sale of tickets by the special train for the Milton Friendly Societies’ picnic to Waitati. The committee, however, will receive a rebate of £l2 18s 9d towards its expenses, being an allowance of bcl and 5d on each adult and child’s ticket respectively. MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Another brief pitting of the Milton Magistrate’s Court was held this morning before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. About a dozen civil cases comprised the month’s list of business, but many were settled out of court, or confessed, and only three came up for adjudication. .lodgment was entered by defiuli m the following claims: Milton Motor and Cycle Company v. S. Solley, claim £5 15s Bd, with court costs (16s), and solicitor’s fee (15s); Milton Borough Council v. Wall Lee, claim £3 7s 9d, with'court costs (15s) and solicitor’s fee (15s). James H. Road v. Clement Cadogan, claim £24 12s 2d on a judgment summons, being balance due on money advanced on a motor car, which had since been sold at auction for £l2 under a d stress warrant. Defendant gave evidence as to bis earnings since judgment was entered in October, 1926. Ho was a painter by trade, but had only been able to secure intermittent employment, and was idle for lengthy periods. He had tried Christchurch, Dunedin, Uanfurly district and Milton, but trade was slack.—Fie was ordered to pay 2s 6d per week in four-weekly periods. BOWLING. Three rinks from Stirling Milton on Saturday afternoon for the South Otago honours board match against the local club. Stirling won by 23 points. Jefferson 25. Totals—Milton, 43; Stirling, 66. ' OBITUARY. The funeral took place at the Fairfax cemetery this afternoon of Mr William Patterson, aged 81 years, who had been a resident of Lovells Flat and Milton district for over4oyears. A native of Belfast, Ireland, Mr Patterson crossed over to Scotland when’ a youth of 15 years, resided there several years, and married. In 1879, accompanied by his wife and threo young children, he came to New Zealand in the ship Timaru, the journey occupying nine weeks, and three days. They took up residence at Lovells Flat, and Mr Patterson followed his trade as a brickmaker at the M’Skimming’s works at Bcnhar, where he worked for several years. Four sons enlisted, two of whom paid the supremo sacrifice in the Great. War. His wife predeceased him 12 years ago, and the surviving member? of the family comprise four son? and four married daughters, living in various parts of the Dominion.
