CONCERT AT PORT MOLYNEUX (From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, January 30. The Kaka Point Welfare Society held a successful concert and dance in the Port Molyneux township hall on Satmday night in aid of the fund for the proposed new hall at Kaka Point. An innoration was the free conveyance by motor car from the Point of all who wished to attend the concert. There was a full house, and the takings amounted to over £ll The following contributed items;— Mr D. M’Farlane, bagpipe overture ; Mrs R. Morton, pianoforte solo; Mr Ben Gold, songs; the Misses Bell, song and dance numbers (in character) ; Mr J. H. Guest, songs; Miss Matheson. song; Mis s Joy Mitchell, Irish jig; Miss Murray (Warena), Scottish songs; Miss Betty Reid (Christchurch), recitations; Mrs K O’Fee, songs; Miss Athy, songs; Mis s Molly Gold, sailor’s hornpipe. Before commencing the dance. Mr S. Wright (chairman of the Welfare Society), in a short speech, said the society was out to beautify the Point and make it a pleasure resort second to none in Otago. To do this a hall would have to be built, and it was hoped it would be one they might be proud of. The society was shortly going to issue debentures, and lie was sure that the issue was going to be over-subscribed. The speaker concluded by moving a vote of thanks to the performers, who were principally from Balclutha, and to Mr s R. Morton, who had played the accompaniments also to the owners of the motors which had maintained a free service from Kaka Point that night. He (Mr Wright) spoke from an experience of concerts and dances m the country extending over 50 years, and it was the first time he had known this to be done.

An enjoyable dance followed until midnight, the floor being crowded with young people. Excellent music was supplied bv Mrs Morton (piano) and Mr John Sharp (violin). _ While the dance was in progress the committee of the Welfare Society held a meeting in one of the ante-rooms, when it was reported that legal advice bad been received that before issuing debentures the society would require to be incorporated as a registered society, and it was resolved to have this done without delay. Several accounts were received and were held over for further consideration.
