Mr Guggenheim, the financier of Lindbergh’s trip, recently condemned transatlantic flying attempts 'as ‘‘ stunts,” and said that "Lindbergh’s flight was not a “stunt,” because he “ blazed the way,” while those who were following him were attempting “ stunts.” Of course, the way was “ blazed ” in 1919 by. two Englishmen—Alcock and Brown —and, considering the great advance in aeronautics in the intervening years, it would seem that the additional miles flown by Lindbergh did not make his feat any greater than theirs, to put it conservatively. An admission that the way was “ blazed ” in 1919 does not rob Lindbergh of any of the credit which he deserves for his courageous flight. A tram line has been completed for a distance of over 10 miles in Italy near Carrara, by means of which tourists may now go to the summit of the Carrara Mountains, a height ot 3000 ft above sea level. The line starts at Ruosina, and in a short time reaches an elevation of 1000 ft, revealing a magnificent panorama of sea and marble-filled slopes. It has 170 bends I and circles several marble mountains cn- I tirely, ending, after passing through a short tunnel, at Cipolaio, where the famous marble quarries may be visited.
