FOOD THROWN OVER CAPTAIN

FIREMAN BEFORE THE COURT. (Pee United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, January ID. “ Guilty, but I had some provocation,” said James Meeks, aged 40, when charged in the Police Court with assault. It was explained that Meeks, who was a ship’s fireman, was dissatisfied with the food served aboard the ship, and complained to the captain, Alexander M’Kenzie, to whom he exhibited a dishful of food on the bridge. “ I cat that,” the prosecution quoted the captain as having replied. ■ Meeks had retorted; “Well, eat that,” and so saying he had tipped the dish and food over the captain’s head.

The Magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt, remanded the accused until to-morrow for sentence.
