THE CORNWELL CUP. TWO WINS FOR AUCKLAND, (Feb United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, January 19. Two races for the Cornwell Cup were decided to-day. The first was a resail of the fifth race between Auckland and Otago, and the second was the sixth race of the contest. The rcsail, which was ordered yesterday through Auckland being compelled to retire after a collision with Canterbury, was won by Auckland, who easily defeated Otago by 12min 26soc. The sixth race was also won by Auckland by smin 50 sec. Auckland and Otago have now secured two wins each, and Hawke's Bay and Whangarci one each. As Auckland won the resail to-day t«e contest will be continued until one centre has secured three wins. PROTEST BY OTAGO YACHT ASSOCIATION. A strong protest against the decision to resail the fifth race for the Cornwell Cup was forwarded yesterday morning by Mr J T Paul, president of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association, to the secretary of the Takapuna Boating Club, and to ‘Mr G. F. Bewley, who is representing the Otago Association at the contest The telegram read as follows; Record emphatic protest against yesterdays amazing decision, which is against the rules of racing and opposed to yachting practice.” ___ THE SANDERS CUP. AUCKLAND FINALS. The second Sanders Cup trial to-day resulted in a win for Avalon from Rona. HARBOUR RACE TO-MORROW. The following is a list of the probable starters in the Competitors’ Handicap Race for motor boats, to be held on the Otago Yacht Club’s course to-morrow:-Stella, Nomad, Doris, Spitfire, Southern Star, Matai, Squib, Ngaio, Marewa Miss Bruce, Carina, Laura, Ugie. Eclipse, and Jewel. SANDERS CUP CONTEST. ANDREWS WILL SAIL BETTY. The champion 14-footer Betty, which will defend the Sanders Cup for Canterbury at Stewart Island next month, will, after all, be sailed by her builder and owner, Air G. G. Andrews. At first, Mr Andrews intended to entrust the management of Betty to other hands, but he has, decided otherwise since his visit to Dunedin some months ago. The personnel of Betty’s crew hag not yet been announced. WELLINGTON SANDERS CUP CREW. The Wellington selectors have decided to include F. Harland (Evans Bay Sailing Club) and N. Rowntree and J. Boyd (Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club) among those yachtsmen from whom the crew to sail Wellesley II in the contest at Stewart Island will be selected.
