RETICENCE OF CONFERENCE. FEAR OF SHARE MANIPULATION. CPresi Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 17. It is understood that probably the cable conference will not disclose the proceedings until something approximating definiteness has been done. It is authoritatively explained that the reason for this exceptional reticence is the fear of playing into the hands of Stock Exchange manipulators in cable and wireless shares. —A. and N.Z. Cable. CANADA’S ATTITUDENO ALTERATION SINCE 1526. OTTAWA, January 17. Mr L. J. Garboury (Deputy Postmastergeneral) and Mr C. P. Edwards (director of radio), at' the Cable Conference .n London, will stress that Canada’s attitude has not altered since 1926, when beam wireless cut into the revenue of the Pacific cable, wiping out £11,000,000 accumulated profit. As the board was facing tecurring deficits, Canada will oppose further expenditure till wireless possi bilities are fully investigated.—A. and N.Z. Cable. COMPLAINT BY DAILY EXPRESS. “ DEALS BEHIND THE SCENES.” LONDON, January 18. (Received Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.) Complaining of the secrecy of the cable and wireless meeting the Daily Express says: “ Cheaper commuijications affect the business world and news agencies. The Empire’s trade intelligence services cannot afford to have the cost raised against them by deals behind the scenes, or any Government department’s notions of commercial diplomacy. An issue of such public importance demands public discussion.” —A. and N.Z. Cable.
