ENGINEER ARRESTED
ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. SHARE IN AN INVENTION. (Prc»» Association Telegraph—rvipvncut SYDNEY, December 15. (Received Dec. 16, at 1 a.m.) John Robert O'Brien, an engineer, was arrested on a provisional warrant on a charge of obtaining £2165 from Albert Pearson by false pretences at Welling ton, New Zealand. Before the Police Court O’Brien gave evidence that he sold Pearson a share in the New Zealand rights of a motor car signal device he invented for £IB6O. He left New Zealand in order to get the invention on the market. Superintendent Mankcy, in charge of the Sydney Criminal Investigation Branch, gave evidence that O’Brien had seen him with reference to the invention. Witness added that he thought th c invention was vf'rv ingenious. The ca-e was adjourned till to-morrow.
