[From Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON, August 29. PERSONAL. The partnership hitherto existing between Messrs R. M. Rutherford and T. C. Marshall, as barristers and solicitors, practising locally as Reid, Rutherford, and Marshall, has been dissolved. The business will in future be conducted by Mr Rutherford, under the title of Reid and Rutherford. ODDFELLOWS’ BALL. The principal social events of the current season wound up with the annual hall of the Loyal Milton and Loyal Victoria combined Oddfellows’ lodges, which was held in the Coronation Hall, Milton, on Friday evening. The attendance easily established a record for Milton, and numbered 164 couples, thus taxing the floor accommodation rather uncomfortably. The Grand March was led off by the Noble Grand officers of the respective lodges, Bro. R. Cockerill and Sister M'Kinney. Visiting lodges were strongly represented. The district executive was represented by D.P.G.M. Bro. Johnston and representatives were also present from Dunedin, Balclutha, Mosgiel, Kaitangata, and . Port Molyneux Lodges, and the local Foresters Hibernians, and Masonic Lodges were also represented. Music was supplied by a Dunedin orchestra of six instrumentalists. POLICE COURT. Two dis J ict young men were arrested by Constable M'Quitty yesterday on charges of drunkenness. They were afterwards bailed out, and at a sitting of the Police Court this morning were fined the amount of their bail (20s). Mr William Moore was the presiding justice. LADIES’ HOCKEY. The proposed visit of South Otago and Bruce-Milton Clubs’ hockey teams to' Dun. edin on Saturday was again postponed, the players receiving advice that the ground at Logan Park was unfit for play. In all probability the visit of the South Otago team will now be cancelled. The following team will represent Milton Club in the seven-a-side tournament to be played at Gore on Wednesday, as pr of the southern town’s “ gala week ” festivities: —Misses Vidal (2), Scott (2), Hawke (captain), Wright, Williamson; emergency, Miss Martin. Following is the draw for the first round of the tournament; —Wyndham I v. Gore High School 11, Wyndham II v. Wendon, Heriot v. Hokonui 11, Hokonui I v. Milton, Miller’s Flat v. Gore High School I, Tapanui v. Riversdale, Waikaia v, Wendon, Lumsden v. Mataura. MUNICIPAL BAND. The local Municipal Brass Band has entered for the B grade bands’ contest to be held at Temuka during next Christmas holidays. A highly successful concert was given by the band at Milburn Hall last week, when the attendance was extremely gratifying, and a satisfactory credit balance resulted in aid of the band’s funds. A first-class programme of vocal and instrumental items was submitted, and was greatly appreciated. A dance waa held at the conclusion of the concert programme.
